The Schola/Music programs are currently being directed by Marc DeMille.
The St. John's Schola seeks to enhance the Divine Liturgy by drawing on the Church's vast store of musical treasures, with a particular focus on Chant, Renaissance Polyphony and traditional Hymnody. Singing at the 10:30 a.m. Mass on the first, third and fifth (if applicable) Sundays of each month, the group rehearses in the choir loft on Wednesday evenings from 7-8:30 p.m. and meets thirty minutes prior to Mass. New members are always welcome. Please contact Marc DeMille at 978-368-0366 x213 for more information.
Chants sung in English or Latin each week at the 10:30am Mass, known as “Propers” are small bits of scripture that are sung 1) at the beginning of Mass (called the introit), 2) at the Offertory and 3) at Communion. If on a particular week they are sung in Latin, the translations will be printed in the bulletin.
The Church offers the introit to direct our hearts and minds to the worship of God.
The Responsorial Psalm (between the 1st and 2nd readings) helps us to express our needs to God from the depths of our hearts and assures us of God’s presence and help.
The Offertory Antiphon offers a scriptural theme for our meditation to strengthen the offering of very lives to God.
The Communion Antiphon offers a scriptural passage for our meditation to prepare our hearts to worthily receive Christ in the Blessed Sacrament.

this particular Sunday, March 15th
Third Sunday of Lent:
Introit: My eyes are forever turned towards the Lord; for he shall release my feet from the snare; look upon me and have mercy on me, for I am abandoned and destitute. Unto you, O Lord, have I lifted up my soul; O my God, I trust in you, let me not be put to shame.
Offertorium: The ordinances of the Lord are right, bringing joy to all hearts, sweeter than honey or the honeycomb. Therefore your servant will observe them.
Communion: "Whosoever drinks the water that I shall offer", said the Lord, "shall have within him a spring of water welling up unto eternal life."
Thank you to all who helped make our recent service of Lessons and Carols a great success. Thanks also to those who attended and gave so generously -- we raised $625 for the good folks at First Concern. Finally our gratitude goes out to the Brothers, Sisters and musicians of the Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Still River for leading us so beautifully in word and song.
